Dear Shaded Viewers,

This morning I had the opportunity to preview the new Jean Nouvel ‘Mes Meubles D’Architecte Sens et Essence’ exhibition. This is the first time in his celebrated career as an architect that Nouvel’s designs and objects are shown together. He has created more than 100 designs since 1987. Light is crucial to his work be it a building or a piece of furniture.

In 1987 he was given a ‘Carte blanche’ to create a collection of furniture in aluminium. In 1995 he created Jean Nouvel Design in order to further develop and create objects and furniture. Sens et Essence is represents a volume of thirty years of creation.

As you work your way through the many rooms of the exhibition you will find those that are dedicated entirely to Nouvel’s modern designs and objects and then you will enter the rooms that house the museum’s XVII and XVIII century art and that is where you will find the dialogue of different centuries. I particularly was fond of the coloured triptyque mirrors that you encountered as you passed through several of the rooms.

Other pieces that particularly impressed me were the wooden Table au Kilometre and the long sofas that are made of wood. Nouvel’s words echo throughout “I am not a designer, but an architect who makes designs.”

Later,

Diane
