In Vienna, the Thais Have It. By Glenn Belverio

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Every year, a contingent of designers and diplomats from the Land of Smiles makes a distinctive statement at MQ Vienna Fashion Week. For this edition, the international press was invited to meet the designers for breakfast at Vienna’s finest upscale Thai restaurant, Patara, for a delectable morning of design details, dumplings, gai yang and pun sip neung.

The catwalk the following evening was an incubator of ideas and the silhouettes of the future.

I was over the moon for the sci-fi comic strip pop prints at ICONIC.

The college of fashiondesigntextile´Die Herbststraße`, the largest school of fashion and art in Austria, presented the RAW student project, a collaboration with the Royal Thai Embassy in Vienna. Last April, I had the pleasure of previewing the students’ work in a sprawling, abandoned post office during the Take Festival in Vienna.

The day after the press breakfast, we were invited to a heavenly lunch at Patara. One of the specialties was this green curry with free-range chicken and sweet basil.

I could eat this red curry with barbecue duck breast and tropical fruits every day and never get sick of it! We need a Thai restaurant like this in New York!

Formidable, fashionable, fierce: Zigi Mueller-Maytas and Elvyra Geyer of Creative Headz, the organizers of MQ Vienna Fashion Week.
