Expo TIM YIP In Parallel – costumes, sculptures, installations, videos and photographs curated by Mark Holborn at la Maison de la Culture d’Amiens up until 15 May

Dear Shaded Viewers,

I made a series of short videos with Tim Yip last night during the opening of In Parallel, his latest exhibition in France. Tim Yip is an artist that does not believe inboundaries. He makes sculptures, his famous muse Lili is omnipresent in his life and work, he makes costumes and sets. His first work in cinema was with John Woo and in 2000 Tim Yip won two oscars at the Academy Awards, one for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration and the other for Best Costume Design both for  Ang Lee's  Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. He has just set up a page showing some of his process on takeit.to…have a look you will find some of the sketches for both sets and costumes plus the end results. In fact his no boundaries career includes 11+ credits for costume design, 12 + credits for Production design, 9+ credits for Art Direction, 2+ credits  for make up. He is also the winner of the ASVOFF 8 Art Direction Prize. All these '+' because him imdb page only goes up to 2012 so probably the real figures are double…or more.

In Parallel, his current exhiition dissolves the distance between west and east and transports the viewer with emotion and his fantasy about a parallel world.Rather than me telling you what is on or in his mind, I will keep posting short videos of our little chat in Amiens.

Later,

Diane
