Michael O’Brian and Zoltan send me their New Year’s greetings.

A short note about the man behind the New Year’s card. Michael James O’Brien graduated from Yale University where he studied photography in the early 70’s with Walker Evans. In l993 he started a collaboration with Matthew Barney, producing all of Barney’s still photographs and creating a photographic parallel to his Drawing Restraint7, Cremaster l, 2, 4, 5. These works have been exhibited at the modern museum in Paris. and at the Guggenheim in 2003 and throughout the world. Among other things the poet/photographer is the editor-at-large of the print ond on-line poetry fanzine Verbal Abuse since its inception in l993. From l997-2003 he was an owner of the restaurant/bar Chez EsSaada in NYC.

His book of photographs, Girlfriend: Men, Women and Drag, was published in l999 by Random House.

He has been living with Zoltan, pictured above, a filmmaker/artist for more than ten years.
