Dear Shaded Viewers,
The Belgian designer Walter van Beirendonck, one of the Antwerp Six, is known for his use of colour, graphics and finds inspiration in politics, literature, music, sexuality and ecology among other things. The journalist Ghessaly La Force wrote “He is the last punk, one whose work can today feel predictive in its obsessions and transgressions, and to which contemporary fashion owes a debt.” September 2019 New York Times.
This will be his second solo show at Galerie Polaris where he will present a series of SCARECROWS embroidered with pearls with messages like only Walter van Beirendonck likes to write on the titles of his collections: EXIGER LA BEAUTÉ, RESPECT, ARRÊTER DE TERRORISER NOTRE PLANÈTE, SAUVEGARDER LE SEXE and a series of miniature sculptures hand embroidered also with messages on an effigie of himself Walterman. He reinvents Belgian surrealism with a desire to open our reality to other perspectives.
