Dear Shaded Viewers,
A graduate of the prestigious Polimoda school in Florence, Federico Cina presented one of the strongest and most inspiring menswear collections during Fashionclash in Maastricht, underlining his talent as a pattern maker, as well as his taste for bold proportions. Using archetypal codes of menswear -such as military styles, denim, sportswear, checks and formal tailoring- the Italian designer exaggerated volumes to striking effect, pumping-up the silhouette to create new slouchy pants, which would literally fall off the body were they not connected to sleek undergarments. This play between hidden and revealed was particularly effective on the runway, giving his men a confident and decisive stride. Once the outfits were broken down, there were many pieces to fall in love with: reworked denim pants with sportswear finishes, a structured trench coat with tulle overlay or tuxedo style blazer with elongated sleeves. The balance between utility and refinement was perfect within his collection, a clear sign that Cina has a bright future ahead of him.
