KENZO – MEN FW 16-17 – BY ALICE DEVELEY

Dear Diane and Shaded viewers,

In light of the Paris attacks, on the evening of november 13, the artists Humberto Leon and Carol Lim have presented a powerful collection full of colours on a song celebrating equality, liberty and fraternity, France’s motto. Without any lies, it was the most upsetting parade of the whole fashion week. In a huge warehouse, porte de la Villette, deep into darkness, a chorus composed of hundreds of people has recited during the fashion show, an a cappella cover of Janet Jackson’s « Rhythm Nation ».

« We are a part of the rhythm nation » repeated over and over again the singers while the audience were hypnotized and moved by the lyrics. Everybody was touched. Some people, in fact, were singing along…And because the lyrics of the chorus were absolutely wonderful, the parade of the models was even better. This year, Kenzo has unveiled an incredible collection mixing flared pants, suits with psychedelic patterns, flower prints and fresh belted trenchcoats. The garments were well cut, straight and espousing the features of bodies, like a second skin. This fall-winter collection is, without a doubt, already cult.

Best,

Alice
