Dear Diane and Shaded Viewers,
With its exhibition, 'La Vitrine am' voices the relationship of decisionmakers with contemporary art.
Could you introduce yourself and present your work?
Valerie Bernard : I am the chief editor and the manager of Girafprod, a company which produces reports and documentaries in the French network. I propose story ideas in the spirit of the times and I lead the invistigation until broadcasting. Recently, we made a story on drugs trade in Spain.
What is the link between your work and works of art, in particular ‘Varsovie’, a painting by Michael Wilkinson that you are representing?
V.L : There is a synergy between my work and the engaged art. It denounces injustices like I do, but with a more poetic look. The work of Michael Wilkinson shows us a view of a political resistance with his representation of the riots of 1968. There is the colour red for the blood and buttons with a piece of a rope which underline the emblems of the demonstrations. We show in our way what is going on.
Who are the artists nowadays ?
V.L : Artists are the mirrors of our time. They are increasingly interpellated by the troubles of our society and they react on their own way, just like Hai Wei Wei reacted with the Chinese political power. They have an important role to play.
Who is your favorite artist ?
V.L : I really like Sigalit Landau and her Venice Biennale. The message is powerful.
The exhibition dates : 13rd october until 11st december
The exhibition place : close to the Palais Royal gardens in Paris, 'La vitrine am' .
