SITI COLLECTION, SASHA NASSAR – BY ALICE DEVELEY

Dear Diane and Shaded Viewers,

an artist is born. Don't let her age fools you, Sasha Nassar is a true creative with a unique concept of beauty. As if she was able to capture feelings, stories and features of people in one garment, her collection is no longer something that you wear but a full-life tissue which espouses the body as a second skin. Deeply inspired by her past and her life in Jaffa, Sasha has collected in her hands the life of her country. She remembers : "Next to my childhood home, next to the old port of Jaffa, I have watched thousands of people define who they are by what they are wearing. Choosing to be unique or look alike. I found the clothing and textile to be one of the most fascinating fields, made out of still objects, which when combined, have a life of their own".

In six dresses, named after a different city : Jaffa, Gaza, Jerusalem, Ramallah, Hebron and Bethlehem, Sasha Nassar tells us stories. Her encounters with the work of fishermen, the ruins in Gaza which have inspired her a "chaotic embroidery" or the landscape and the nature of her country symbolized by water, rocks and lights. In reality, Sasha Nassar is being a poet. Her clothes are celebrating diferent visions of the world and the liberty of seeing it diferently. You may see stars, feathers, crosses… but you'll always see, for sure, beauty.
