Saw a great show in Bombay recently by Thukral and Tagra, a duo of artists based in Delhi. Blurring the lines between product design and fine art, their work has a sense of humor, impressive level of polish and conceptual foundation – encouraging qualities in a local art landscape that is often conservative and unreceptive to challenging mediums and messages.
The various pieces explored T & T’s abiding interest in consumer products as embodiments of social and individual meanings. Hopes, dreams, desires and danger, all contained in our kitchen cabinets. Check out the whisky-filled, portrait-emblazoned chocolates.
The show was at Chatterjee & Lal, one of Bombay’s pre-eminent contemporary art galleries. Owned by Mort Chatterjee and Tara Lal, it consistently showcases work that surprises and engages those in search of the unexpected. If you’re in Bombay, be sure to stop in. http://www.chatterjeeandlal.com/
