I’m sad to report that all the merchandise got tied up in customs for the U.S.’s first Comme des Garcons guerrilla store here in Los Angeles. I arrived at the shop just after it opened to buy a birthday gift for later on in the evening.
My condolences go out to Tak and Brett, the owners of the shop, who worked long and hard for this opening day…. but fear not! The merch is on its way.
I had considered taking one of the hangers to the birthday party and explaining, “Yeah, they’re doing these really interesting, architectural wooden belts now….”
I couldn’t stay for the shop’s opening party for more than a minute, but from what I saw, there were plenty of CDG fans wearing both vintage and newer pieces from Chez Kawakubo.
