I met mAlAkAi years ago through our mutual friends, KTZ aka Sasha and Marjan. Both live at least part time in Bali and LA. mAlAkAi is a self taught, multi-disciplinary artist based between Berlin as well as Bali and LA. He has been creating bespoke jewelry and decor since 1999 . You for sure remember the head pieces presented in the recent Rick Owens and Manish Arora catwalk shows…all by mAlAkAi.
In addition to creating elaborate costumes and characters, he has performed/DJ for Cirque Du Soleil, Jane’s Addiction, Coachella and Torture Garden, among others. He also models, designs, art directs and styles. The brand House of Malakai was launched in 2013 and began an accessory brand focusing on bespoke head wear. The brand’s first atelier was created in Bali.
mAlAkAi ‘s designs have been worn by celebrities including FKA Twigs, Erykah Badu, CL and Rihanna, to name a few. You might remember the iconic headdress and body jewellery Beyonce wore at the 2017 Grammy performance ‘Love Drought’, for Peter Dundas.
