My other favourite part of Sonar has been listening to the strong and visionary keynote presentation by Australian Big-data surveilance and artificial intelligence expert, Professor Kate Crawford (@katecrawford). Kate's a writer, composer, producer, academic, principal researcher at Microsoft Research New York City and a Visiting Professor at MIT's Center for Civic Media. She spoke on her speciality which focused on social change and media technologies, particularly on the intersection of humans, mobile devices, and social networks. Interestingly, Kate also saw the importance of artists adopting artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques in which to create a more ethical type of humanistic intelligence.
