Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Tbilisi: the wrap

Dear Shaded Viewers,

here more designers to discover with a selection of looks you would die for…

Avtandil

The designer’s roots are the ones of a modern painter. All this art flows in all the collection because most of them studied at Tbilisi Academy of Arts and not in a fashion school. Compared to the last season where there was a lot of graphism and splashes of colors, this collection intrigued me more. An homage to the 90’s, androgynous in the look, very pop in the feel. Deconstructivism in the coats meets Tokyo and their Harajuku girls with quirky dresses . Funny prints with a Jurassic Park logo, rainbow little pony stars and videogames themes. Military colorful boots complete the sporty outfits for a new army of cool.

Eloshi

She could be addressed as the Céline of Tbilisi. Lela Eloshvili style is minimal, sophisticated and chic. A pastel palette with pleated crisp long lean tailoring with 3D pleat detailing that I will match with the leather pants she also proposed. Totally in love with the earrings she developed in silver and gold reminiscent of the Art Decò. A special attention was drawn to the use of felted wool in lots of her pleated pants, beautifully irregular pleated dresses and oversize coats.

Matériel by Aleksander Akhalkatsishvili

The typical dark Georgian spirit runs deep in the blood of Aleksander. I’ve always liked his severe Gothic style that I find somehow super sexy.

Bold construction in shapes, cuts and silhouettes that look simple and clean but that stand strong on their own. Matériel is a fashion collective, a manufacturer with its own production and boutiques, that has a roster of the brightes Georgian talents working for the brand. Aleksander showed clerical inspired asymmetric tunics and pants in slithery techno fabrics and wool. No prints, no frills and only black, red and pastel light blue. For pieces that, even if a bit over sized, wrap you with timeless grace. Clergy style still rocks after all.

Matériel by Tiko Paksa

Short hoodies, felt that looked like a tecno fabric for coats and bombers, satin for the long jumpsuits and a bit of fluid jersey for the pants. Futuristic, minimalistic and sporty injections were all over the collection as well as the japanese look alike symmetrical and asymmetrical shapes of the dresses. Colors were simple as black, red, silver and blue. Tiko part of Matériel’s Creative Team and generally really inspired by Rei Kawakubo this time took a hint on casualwear for a more easy-going and wearbale collection. I felt a Berliner’s vibe from the first exit to the last one.

Le Mocassin Zippé by Ketevane Maissaia

Miss Maissaia is an accessories designer, who works for Loewe in Paris and that employs Georgian shoe craftsmen to make her signature collection. The style is all in the detail: a zip on the upper that fastens the left and right together. The display was set to be a discovery through little cabinet of curiosities that played with mirroring effects. Le Moccassin Zippé is an excellent achievement that supports local artisans and export Georgian footwear worldwide. Are they going to beat the Gucci typical loafers? Stay tuned.

Tamara Sujashvili

Sculpural hand-made shoes, to wear or to decorate your home as an object of design. High-quality leathers and craftmanship make Tamara’s work incredible. This year’s collection is inspired by the space age, a fairy tale that comes from Atlantide to nowadays. Extreme cuts gently shape your feet while the plexi ultra light heels make you shine on the dancefloor or even during the day. Why not? The designer’s atelier is also working on a limited edition of made to measure suede and leather coats and biker jackets.
