Dear Shaded Viewers,

The muses of young designer Moises Nieto’s collection are the 13 Roses—the revolutionary women who opposed the Spanish Civil War. The women, who were sympathizers of the socialist Spanish Republic, were arrested one month after the war ended, in 1940, and sentenced to death for crimes they did not commit.

On a lighter note, Nieto’s collection boasted bright-colored pantsuits with architectural bags, and masculine jackets juxtaposed with floaty pleated metallic skirts. All perfect for the modern woman warrior marching from office to cocktail party.
