the brotherhood is alive – After Louie

"After Louie is a portrait of what happened to us, and, what is happening to us— the generation of men and women who endured the AIDS epidemic, a generation whose share history continues to haunt us. In confronting the end of a traumatic era and provoking a conversation between generations, I dare us to dream of a new and vibrant future, again.

The film follows Sam—artist, AIDS activist and former member of ACT UP—as he approaches sixty in present day New York City. Consumed by nostalgia for a community lost and struggling with the apathy he sees in the newer generation, Sam shuts himself away and escapes into his work. An unexpected intimacy with a younger man pushes Sam to tear down his walls and challenges his understanding of contemporary gay life. Through this unconventional affair, and with the help of his close friends, Sam rediscovers his self-worth and comes to see that all his years of passion and activism were not in vain.

In the end, we see that all of us—both young and old—play vital roles in the continuing healing and renewal of our community.

After Louie is a film made for the community I am surrounded by and I need your support to bring this film to life.

Love,
Vincent"
