MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK TBILISI – ATELIER KIKALA FALL WINTER 15/16 – TEXT BY PHILIPPE POURHASHEMI

Dear Shaded Viewers,

One of Georgia's most creative brands, Atelier Kikala delivered a strong and intriguing show during the first edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Tbilisi, articulating their design process around the contradiction between man-made and handicraft. Embroidery looked almost naive, using thick wool threads against techno fibers or felt, which gave a contemporary feel to minimal separates. Sleeveless dresses looked charming with their shirt collar, while pants were often loose and mannish. The knitwear was strong as well, ranging from oversized landscape sweaters to simple dresses, as well as fluffy coats recalling shaggy fur. Atelier Kikala managed to strike the right balance between tradition and novelty, making it an exciting brand to watch within the local fashion scene.

Best,

Philippe
