BIRDS OF PARADISE AT MOMU IN ANTWERP – TEXT BY PHILIPPE POURHASHEMI PHOTOS BY BOY KORTEKAAS

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Few materials manage to capture the ethereal, dreamy and fragile nature of beauty as well as feathers do. The focus of MoMu's current exhibition in Antwerp -entitled "Birds of Paradise"- they are elegantly displayed in all their glory and historical weight, from the romance of the Belle Epoque to Ann Demeulemeester's striking designs, examining their mysterious and everlasting appeal. In contemporary fashion, feathers still stand for luxury, femininity and refinement, as well as a certain melancholy. Poetic and elusive at the same time, marabou, pheasant and ostrich are some of the feathers, which keep fascinating designers, adding delightful drama to their creations.

"Birds of Paradise" runs until the 24th of August.

Best,

Philippe
