Dear Diane and Shaded Viewers,

After going to seemingly endless amounts of showrooms whose core aesthetic was black minimalism, seeing the collection from Italian designer Stella Jean in her Paris showroom during fashion week, was divine. It's not quite that the intense focus on colour and use of print, gave me "the will to live", but it was certainly energising. After winning Vogue Italia's 2011 Who's On Next contest, and with the support of Giorgio Armani and Suzy Menkes, Stella Jean is causing a bit of a stir with her pattern en masse, which for Spring 2014 were characterised by collisions between traditional Haitian textiles and prints from West Africa, with plenty of gingham and thick stripes, so perhaps the minimalists should overt their eyes…
