Sylvain LE GUEN

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Sylvain Le Guen has been fascinated and inspired by the beauty and complexity of fans all of his life. You can see some of his fans in The Fan Museum. The sticks and the guards  that are used to construct the fans are made by hand using a variety of techniques and materials, some traditional with aluminium, mother-of-pearl, ivory, bone, tortoise shell and an array of different woods. Some are made of leather while others are embroidered sil, or lace. His designs are often inspired by the Japanese art of oigami Helene Alexander, the Director/Curator of the The Fan Museum credits Sylvain for reviving the richness and variety of the historic form and reinventing it as a living art for the twenty-first century.

Diane
