Manolo Blahnik CBE wins outstanding achievement award by the British Fashion Awards 2012

This year's Outstanding Achievement Award will be presented to Manolo Blahnik CBE on Tuesday the 27th November. The award is significant in that it recognizes the life work and the impact that the receipient has had on the global fashion industry.  The career of Manolo Blahnik spans 40 years and three awards as British Fashion Awards Accessory Designer of the year: 1990, 1999 and 2003. He also received the honorary title of Commander of the British Empire in 2007.

Manolo Blahnik showed his portfolio of designs to Diana Vreeland on a visit to NYC and was encouraged by her to concentrate on footwear. In 1971 he was London based and making shoes. Ossie Clark used his collection in a show in one of his shows and in 1973 he opened his first shop in Old Church Street, Chelsea where it remains as his flagship store.

In 2003 the Design Museum, London opened a major exhibition of Manolo's work which coincided with the 'Drawings' book of skethes that was produced by Thames & Hudson. Blahnik's boutiques are located in London, NYC, Las Vegas, Athens, Madrid, Istanbul, Dubai, Hong Kong, Seoul, Singapore and Stockholm.
