Dear Diane, dear shaded viewers,
It was such a beautiful spring day in Tokyo yesterday. I walked from Shinjyuku almost to Shibuya to visit mame's showroom.
Maiko Kurogouchi, the designer behind mame explained to Rila and me how to make this fragile yet powerful 3 dimentional embroidery on very fine lace.
People normally use flame retardant fabric to embroider on lace to strengthen the fabric, but it makes embroidery thick and firm. As Maiko wanted to have thic and 3 dimentional embroidery yet soft and airy finishing, the artisan used the paper which will melt in the water to embroider. After finishing the embroidery work, the lace will be immerse under the water so that the paper in between the embroidery will melt. After this process the embroidery will remain as is with some air in between the thread.
The collection is really beautiful, attention to every single details.
Rila wanted this bag so badly… and I cannot wait to receive my order from last season – I ordered this bag in fluorescent yellow.
The showroom is open until Sunday 25 March 2012.
