A VISIT TO KHADI AND CO IN PARIS – TEXT BY PHILIPPE POURHASHEMI

Dear Shaded Viewers,

A friend of mine suggested I pay a visit to Khadi and Co on 37 rue Debelleyme as they have some great textiles there. I was welcomed by Marianne Honvault who really took the time to show me the clothes and beautiful scarves. Everything is hand-made in India and you can really feel the weaver's hand in each piece. In fact, there's a personal narrative behind each item.

The line was created by Bess Nielsen, a former model who worked regularly for Guy Bourdin and other major photographers. She fell in love with Indian fabrics and developed a sustainable concept that became Khadi and Co. A simple shirtdress with a pleated front was timeless and elegant.

Marianne showed me some incredible plates that were made out of assembled leaves. I just couldn't take my eyes off them.

Best,

Philippe
