PROFILE: PERFORMANCE ARTIST MAI UEDA

My good friend New York based Japanese performance artist Mai Ueda, has just formed a new group of as she descirbies "10 beautful girls" who are friends, artist, and some students, called the Bird Choir. Mai and her Bird Choir, as she explains in the video below are getting ready for a perfomance tomorrow at 9PM at Freight + Volume in Chelsea as part of New York Armory Arts Week. Along with the live Bird Choir performance toworrow, Mai has also been exhibiting a new video piece about the Bird Choir which will be up until March 26th.  Mai who combines poetry, imporvisational song and live perfomance has perfomed in gallerys and museums around the world such Venice Biannuial, PS1, Chanel Moblie Arts, Palais De Tokyo, Moderna Museet etc. Mai and I first met in Tokyo while I was attending the opening of the HARMONEY book exhibition in 2008.
