David Gil reports from Medellin’s ColombiaModa – Aqua Bendita

 Dear Shaded Viewers,

It is surprising to realize that two decades ago when ColombiaModa was founded, Medellin was labeled the most dangerous city in the world. Today, things have changed quite drastically . Medellin has become one of the most prosperous cities in South America and ColombiaModa is now the epicenter of one of the most important events in Latin American Fashion.

ColombiaModa puts together 800 brands and it's growing reputation has attracted international designers like Carolina Herrera and Oscar de la Renta who presented their collections on the Medellin runways.

Something that really surprised me during my brief visit to ColombiaModa was how visionary emerging markets can be when it comes to democratizing glamour. Far from European and American elitism, in this part of the world the shows are not just open to the happy-influential few but are also open to the public.

My favorite collection was Agua Bendita (Holy Water), which was about bathing suits and rainbow colored printed beachwear. Aqua Bendita's designs include hand knitted, macrame and crochet bikinis and jewelry made out of mohair knits. The fabulous curvacious bodies of the models are the definite proof that Colombian women are the most exotic women on earth.
