COMME DES GARÇONS SEOUL(SOUTH KOREA) – By Marcelo Horacio Maquieira

Dear Shaded Viewers & Diane,

During fashion weeks seems always tasty to skip some shows and get downtown to feel the local vibes. Worldwide, fashion’s national identity includes its shopping culture anyway; therefore the freedom to escape and visit the must see locations.

Comme des Garçons Seoul defines a new metropolitan retail circuit where concept stores (10 Corso Como, etc, etc), are well mixed with serious institutions as Mrs.Kawakubo’s universe opened last September.(let’s make clear Rick Owens and Ann Demeulemeester have also landed in Seoul with their mother ships-spaces). Once the car parked in front of the store I immediately realized the bakery-café next door was already open. First stop: ROSE BAKERY, part of the store and perfectly grafted with a young team chopping vegetables, dressing salads and mixing pastas. Their slogan: WE USE ORGANIC VEGETABLES WHENEVER POSSIBLE. I limit myself to order a local tea while seating on those primary school chairs and totally charmed by their spirit. The noise of cars, the fresh ingredients . . . prepares me to take the elevator to the top floor. The giant polka dots having a strong graphic presence are the ultimate reason to let myself travel (or fall) through the white-glassy building. It’s an impressive fashion toboggan.

COMME des GARÇONS.
