Georgette Koning on Klavers van Engelen.
Today I visited Dutch designers Niels Klavers and Astrid van Engelen in Amsterdam. They just showed their summer collection in Milan. In their studio I also met buyer Margreeth Olsthoorn, she owns two shops in Rotterdam. She sells o.a. Raf Simons, Veronique Branquinho, Wood Wood, Acne Jeans, Martin Margiela, Bless and Henrik Vibskov. Her menstore, designed by Richard Hutten is nominated for the LAI 2008 Award. www.lai2008.nl www.klaversvanengelen.com
Left: Margreeth with Astrid. The suberb glasses (something for you Diane?) are made in collaboration with Anna Ter Haar, a Design Academy student who also makes furniture using dripping techniques. (www.annaterhaar.nl). Left Niels and Astrid.
The Klavers van Engelen S/S 2009 collection is based on a special kind of draped curtains that hung about thirty years ago in almost every window at The Jordaan, a former working-class area in Amsterdam.Photo’s by Peter Stigter.
