On 19 November 2007, Emanuele and Nicolas Amore were kidnapped by their father, Carmelo Amore, from Ispica, Sicily, after a ruling was issued by the Juvenile Court of Catania ordering that he surrender his sons to their mother, Karyn Krause, who lives in Albany, California.
Mr. Amore had illegally detained the children in Sicily after a summer vacation. Ms. Krause had to file a legal action for their return under the Hague Convention. The hearing took place in Catania on 7 November 2007 and the court issued a ruling for the immediate return of the children to California on 16 November 2007. However, before the appointment with Social Services in Ragusa, Sicily, Mr. Amore fled with the children.
