Salon Light – Magazine Salon and Rudy Burckhardt La Seance du Dimanche atthe Centre Culturel Suisse curated by Stuart Comer, department Cinema of the Tate Modern

Dear Shaded Viewers,

Today was the first time that I visited the Salon Light magazine salon. I went to visit my friends from USELESS Conrad Ventur and Adrien Pelletier. They were seated next to another friend, Jenny Mannerheim from NUKE and next to them was Currency Magazine. It’s quite interesting and I think I will be happy to go again next year.

After the salon Conrad and I went over to the Swiss Cultural Center for the Rudy Burckhardt program of several of his films curated by Stuart Comer, curator of films at the Tate Modern. Rudy Burckhardt (1914-1999) was Swiss but left Basel at the age of 21, lived in NYC after a passage in London and was friends with John Ashbery, Larry Rivers, Edwin Denby and collaborated with Joseph Cornell among others. His work reminds me a bit of Jonas Mekas but Burckhardt’s work is more about speed and urban motion as seen from the perspective of the pedestrian. My favorite among the films that I did see was Square Times made in l967 with music by The Supremes.

Here are a few flou images of the films.
