I just came back from an appointment with Todd Lynn. We met ages ago at Gwand where he was showing. He was working for ROland Moret at that time, in fact he worked for ROland making patterns and doing fabric research for seven years and when Roland’s business ended it was Roland that told TOdd it was time for him to strike out on his own. Todd went to school in Canada where he honed in on his technical knowledge and then went on to graduate from Central Saint Martins. This is his first collection and already two of the most powerful women in fashion, Anna Wintour and Suzie Menkes, are crazy for him. Anna is doing something on him for the December issue of American Vogue and Suzie already spoke about him in the IHT. He already has an impressive list of private clients which includes P J Harvey, Mick Jagger, Marilyn Manson, Bono, The Stones, etc.
I was shooting a little video interview with Todd and because of that I only shot a few still images. The collection has 16 looks, the same styles are cut so they can fit men or women. Todd has the recipe for success he not only is an expert at construction but he also understands how to make a personal collection which is also commercial without setting out to be. He said that this season he just made clothes that he wanted to wear. All the fabrics are Italian and there are skinny trousers and fluid ones, longer jackets, shorter jackets, great looking backless vests and beautiful shirts. Maria Luisa has already ordered for her shop in Paris and the buyers and press keep calling and pouring into his hotel room off of Concorde.
Todd asked Christian Louboutin to make shoes for him and there are these 3 pairs which everyone wants to buy. The choices are satin, silver or snake skin.
You will have a hard time believing that this is his first collection. He maintained a roster of private clients while working for Roland Moret for the past 7 years. He told me that he is working on a big project but it is not ready to be announced yet but promised that he will tell me first. I know that it involves someone famous who is very cool like Todd himselfdesigner.
