DINO DINCO : LOS ANGELES : LSE AND PABLO

Last week, at the Daniel Hug Gallery in Chinatown, Tracey and I went to a play written and performed by Los Super Elegantes and friends, titled “The Technical Vocabulary of an Interior Decorator.” Here are some visual moments from it.

In your free time, write a narrative based on the images and email it to me. I’ll then forward it to Los Super Elegantes.

I was walking to the gallery by myself to see the play and passed this foxy guy on the street wearing the brightest pink polo shirt I’ve ever seen. He was staring at me as I passed but his pink shirt made me a little unsteady. I arrived at the gallery and there was no one there, except Milena and Marti of LSE. They said hi and I said, “Where is everybody?” I was 30 minutes early. Milena had emailed the day before, telling me that her friend Pablo was coming in from London and wanted to meet me. She said, “Come on in back – I’ll introduce you.” Well, she couldn’t find him and said, “He must be walking around.” I asked her, “Was he wearing a bright pink shirt?” She said, “Yeah, that’s him!”

I left in search of the bright pink shirt and the Pablo within. Within minutes, I found it..and him…amongst a small sea of Chinese people. I stepped up the pace, yelling “Pablo! Pablo!” There was (what appeared to be total) fear in his eyes as I caught up to him, saying, “Hey, I’m Dino.” He looked to the ground and replied, “Yes, I know. I’ve seen pictures of you.”

I started to wonder what pictures, exactly, and was hoping they weren’t the ones from jail during my spree of auto thefts. Regardless, we had some beverages and Vietnamese snacks, while I waited for Tracey to arrive.

He showed me the beautiful international magazine that he’s producing, called “pablo internacional magazine.” The tag line is “macho not rough…art, men and architecture.” It’s graphically very strong and simple, printed on 5″ x 7″ white newsprint. We talked about me contributing to an issue, which I would like very much. Here’s the cover of Issue Zero:
